I didn't vote for Trump, but was the line about Charles Hallahan character's looking like a Trump supporter really necessary?
In any event, the father was a jerk for the sole purpose of making the audience want to see Michael kill him. Personally I would have preferred it had the father been a likable character because then his death would have had more of a--no pun intended--shock value.

I agree. I found myself wishing Michael had killed the jerk in a more gruesome manner, I hated him that much. Had he not been a butt, I'd have felt more sympathetic.
