I really liked the little plastic umbrella Beat Takeshi's character was holding in the next to last shootout scene. It was so cute, seeing the contract killer daintily holding the umbrella to keep off the rain so he could shoot another couple of people dead. Wonder who thought this up - the director or the actor? Any thoughts.
shareI'd say Kitano had the idea, it's the kind of thing he'd think of to put into such a dark and violent scene. Yeah! i love this movie.
shareWell, I've just watched a special edition DVD that just released in Japan, and in that Takashi Ishii, the director said Takeshi Kitano had to wear the umbrella as it was the first film he did after the fatal motorbike accident (and the lengthy of operation process) - he was wearing the eye patch necessary for his eye that been injured and in the raining scene, of course he had to wear the umbrella so that his eye won't get wet.
