'Poor Ray'

In the narration by Beth as an adult, when Ray is getting hauled out of the cave by the police, she says "poor Ray." Does that bother anyone else? Like, he was abusing your best friend and your best friend's mom, clearly he deserved whatever consequences the law handed down to him. Why would you feel sorry for him after he nearly killed your best friend twice, once right in front of you, and nearly killed her mom and landed her in the hospital? I mean one could argue that he was mentally ill or the alcohol made him do it and he needed counseling, but seriously?

I think she was saying it sarcastically. Like 'aww, diddums, the poor little wife beater and child abuser got his comeuppance'. Though I agree, the narrator didn't do a very good job of conveying it.

Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

Hmm, that's a good point. Thanks!
