the end SPOILERS! Please help newbie :)

Sorry I am not very familiar with the franchise. I had a question about the final shots. Some say it's G Jr. who, Phoenix-like, rises from the ashes. Are there physical markers that guarantee it's "son" and not big G?

Reason for asking: earlier in the film, a female character describes what would happen if G got nuked - total obliteration of Japan to say the least. This description is immediately followed by what seems to be that character's minds-eye view of what nuking G would look like. A giant mushroom cloud sucking up matter. But this is a "fantasy-individual character's POV" scene.

I am curious if the end could also be interpreted as such. A female character (is it the one from the earlier scene, I couldn't be sure) looks over the destroyed city, the camera lingering on her gaze. Then, just as in the earlier scene G - big or Jr. - appears. Could this scene be the character's imagery of G somehow surviving and somehow rising again in the future?

Firstly, Godzilla in "Godzilla 2000" is not Junior. That movie is in its own continuity and has no connection to the Heisei series (1984-1995) at all.

Secondly, it is Junior resurrected at the end of "Godzilla vs. Destroyer", period. There's no two ways about it. The resurrection calls back to Godzilla's own transformation into Godzilla from 1991's "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah." Godzilla made sure that he was standing at the location of Junior's corpse so that all the radioactivity in his body would go to him.

If you notice, they show and mention that all of the radioactivity released by Godzilla's meltdown has disappeared. This is because Junior absorbed it all, which is what transformed him into the new Godzilla. Also, it is mentioned earlier in the movie that Miki Saegusa is losing her psychic abilities whereas Meru's in on the rise. When Junior resurrects, it is Meru who senses Junior not Miki.

I think the point of all those, including myself who say that Godzilla 2000 is Godzilla Junior is because we feel that is what should have been. I really don't understand why Toho would have Junior coming back at the end of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah but then totally get rid of the character. I mean if you look at some ways that Godzilla acts in Godzilla 2000 he acts kind of like Godzilla Junior would. For me, he is Godzilla Junior. I, like many others respectfully disregard Toho's explanation.
