Cinema's greatest death scene?

I was completely moved by Gojira's performance at the end of this film. This lizard deserved an Oscar for his death scene, which was strengthened even more by Akira Ifukube's magnificant and emotional score.

Kudos to Goji!

That last scene is the best finale scene ever!
I think even better than Star Wars Ep:3 final scene!

Godzilla vs. Destroyah has sadder moments than Revenge of the Sith. As much as I like ROTS, I felt nothing for Anakin Skywalker as the tragic hero turned villain archetype. Even sadder than Goji's death scene perhaps was when he had to endure the death of Junior. Junior was much more placid than his elder, which made his sadistic murder even more difficult as a viewer, and the fact that Goji unwittingly resurrected Junior through his own inevitable meltdown was a dramatically satisfying twist... and this is a monster movie!

the ending in this was better than in ROTS, it was emotional and was backed by a great score from Ifukube. ROTS's ending was kinda funny with the NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The ending isn't too bad, and some people see it as Godzilla's end but it wasn't. Everybody knows there's been a few different Godzilla's, in this case, the one that fought Biolante died, however, a new era begun from it's death, the rise of a new Godzilla, a new King to the throne. It's a re-birth, and a much needed one at that. Godzilla knew his legacy must go on, he could have set back and melted down and not cared what happened, but Godzilla has honor, despite what anybody might think, and he chose to destroy "Destoroyah" and give his own life essence to junoir so that his legacy could continue. To me this showed that Godzilla has honor and dignity, just like Mothra, although it just isn't shown as much.

Big G's death was sad but what happend to junior was far worse in the Japanese comics. His limbs were ripped off by Destroyah and he got impaled practically in front of Godzilla. Destroyah got it good in the end for that too!

Death scene did make me cry. It should definitely deserve an oscar. Although it did get publicized mention and was on the Jay Leno show and got an MTV movie award.

I agree, that was heart-breaking. Best ending to a Godzilla movie to date.

The one that fought Biolantte didn't die. It went into some sort of coma thing, and then went back to the sea. At least, that's how I remember it. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't remember him actually dying in it.

What I mean to say is that my pants are on fire.

It was a great ending but Godzilla does live at the end. it is simply left a little open to interpretation but Godzilla transfers his consciousness to little godzilla ala Spock-McCoy in Star Trek II and then dies.

You see a reborn Godzilla in the smoke as the movie ends.

Me and some of me mates were watching it at an illegal showing a few years back, and it seemed that everyone in the "theatre" (including meself) all stood in respect upon Godzilla's demise. It was suprisingly moving. But then again, I suppose that he's touched all of our lives at one point or another. I know that meself and me sister actually grew up with the Godzilla films being our favorites. He was someone to look up to, strangely.

Hell yes!! To think Godzilla watched his son die, and then felt the pain of death himself...truly tragic
