Denis Farina is kickass

I laugh to death everytime he appears. When the guy starts to say that his gun wont work and he just shoot the poor bastard with a smile in his face, I just love it. Barboni is one of the coolest guys I´ve seen in movies. And end with Hervey Keitel is great!

I LOVE THE LINE ABOUT THE F-ING SMOG MAKES GREAT F-ING SUNSETS. FARINA IS TRIP. HES GREAT IN SNATCH TOO.

reply

My personal faves are when he walks up to the space in front of the taxi cab and makes him drive up, the part where he says "look at me Harry" and the smug "I say *beep* it" speech he gives Chili when he takes the locker key. Only Denis Farina could do it so well

reply

...and we all know friends don't hit each other!"

Man, couldn't believe he punched her in the face!!
The part about the sunsets was a hoot, too.

Denis Farina was extremely funny in the scene in which Bobby the Limo Driver begins to talk to Denis(Bones)in the limo on the freeway, and tells him that if he ever needs to get to the beach, this is the freeway that you take. Denis Farina has a silent look on his face that clearly screams "why are you talking to me, I am not a friendly type of person".....

And when Denis(Bones) first meets Bobby the Limo Driver in the airport, he pushes a piece of luggage into Bobby's mid section while Bobby is saying his name, and his voice goes up an octive or two like Bobby Brady singing "Time To Change". Funnyyyyyyyy stuff!

The humor is in the irony as if the smog is a good thing. The film is full of irony not all spoken; For example, when Chili flies into LAX...... it's pouring rain..... it NEVER rains in SoCal according to the song !!

reply

I totally agree with you :)..Denis Ferina was awesome in Get Shorty.

reply

I think he steals the movie from Travolta, De Vito, and even Hackman! It hurts me to say that too cuz I love Gene.

reply

I loved Dennis Farina... All his lines are gold, and only he could have made them so:

- What a bunch of *beep* bull**it! (when talking about the sunset)
- *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* (when he answers the phone)
- I am the dips**t who hasn't been out of Miami
- E.g., i.e., *beep* you!
- Have you heard from Mr Palmer since your husband blew up?

I also love the line: "Where's Chili Palmer, where's Leo DeVoe... where's my *beep*' money?"

reply

I like the part where he says that he got into the room by saying that he was Chili...

He goes "yeah it was easy, I just acted real stupid and said I was you" (something like that)

reply

He sure is the man in this movie.

Also Delroy Lindo was cool, with lines like;

Then we hire someone else to fill in the comma's 'n sh*t

reply

He really did steal the show. What a great character. My favorite line was, "E.g., i.e., f--- you! The point is, when I say 'jump,' you say 'okay.' Okay?"

reply

He 100% awesome 100% of the time.

I personally feel that Ray Barboni is one of the best characters in the history of movies.

Of all the parts mentioned already in this thread, I still can't stoplaughing about that scene where he walks up to the front of the cab, snaps his fingers and makes the driver pull up 5 feet so he didn't have to walk.

I also love the stupid music playing in the Caddy when he drives to the barber shop for the first time. Hilarious.

reply

Yeah i was wondering what is gonna this idiot gonna do next and then came the taxi moment and it had me rofl. Dennis farina is always great, doesn't matter in a comic role like here or as a dead-serious kingpin in "midnight run".

Women are like deer - You can't just charge in, you gotta stalk 'em...

reply

OMG just reading this thread and thinking of all those scenes with Denis Farina has me laughing my a** off! Definitely one of the best parts, and some people miss it, when he snaps his fingers at the cabbie and makes him drive 5 feet.

I also love (and if anyone knows the name of this song lemme know!) the song playing in the car when he goes to visit Leo's wife. The singer says something about 'nervous indigestion'?!?!?! What the hell kind of song is that?? But I also love how he watches the driver get out, walk around the car, and open his door for him. Classic!

i laughed my ass off everytime he appears on screen. he had some great lines. mostly the lines were funny because of his delivery.

when he gets in the cab and says "take me to f-ing airport" was priceless.

"look it's chili outside and it's chili inside"

and so many more great moments.

reply

The great thing about Dennis Farina as Ray Bones is he plays a legitimate threat across the entire length of the film who keeps you laughing the whole time. Mortal threat and comedy are difficult to pull off in tandem, but he does it.

Great use of the f-word, too. If they had an award for "Finest Dramatic Use of the F-Word" at the Academy Awards in 1996, excuse me f-ball, but that's Mr. Farina's to take home.

Dennis is the new host of a re-working of the TV show Unsolved Mysteries. It's going to start showing on Spike TV in November. I've been working with him in my studio for the last couple of weeks recording voice-overs for the show. For the record, Dennis is a very cool guy. He has a lot of good stories and is great to everyone at my production company.

reply

PLEASE, if you get the opportunity, tell him that he is the s*%t, he does it all, I admire his work tremendously. His part in Get Shorty was the best. I don't know how he does it, but he just knows how to deliver a line.

Thanks much.

LOL, yes! I love that line. I mean, it's such a basic line, just a nothing, throwaway line really. But the way Dennis Farina says it, it just cracks me up every time.

When I said I wanted to be a comedian, they all laughed at me. Well, they're not laughing now!

reply

Yeah, excellent character!!

Just like in Snatch!

Wow, I was just going to bring that up.

As Cousin Avi, He had a lot of great lines in Snatch:

"Hear that Doug? We're coming to *beep* England."

Three seconds later Doug greets him in London: "Avi!"

"Sit down you big bald *beep*."

reply

Another good part is when they pull up in front of Leo's house and he just sits in the car like an a-hole until his bodyguard walks around the car to open the door for him. (He does a similiar thing later in the movie with the finger snap at the cab driver.)

He played the part perfectly of a typically arrogant gangster who thinks the world revolves around him and that everybody is there to serve him.

One thing I also thought was funny was when he was reading on the toilet and his lips were moving. I wonder if he added that himself or if that was already in the script. Either way, it was hilarious.

Yet one more funny scene was when he's throwing Harry around Harry's office and beating him up and says, "This is exactly what I needed. I little fvck!ng exercise after that long fvck!ng plane ride." Of course, he spreads the words out as he's tossing Harry around like a rag doll.

He did a bang-up job (literally) in this movie.

reply

I particularly like the Harry's office scene in the "Have a peek at this.." and trashes the office. Maybe I have a hidden sadistic trait...
