I only saw part of the film and I wondered what happened to the cat after he/she climbed out of the car?

Exactly. Poor kitty!
It demonstrated how awful, apathetic, and selfish this woman had become at some prior point in life. It didn't matter to Sadie what happened to the innocent creature; she needed to score drugs, drink, gig, and feel sorry for herself while manipulating others to her benefit. Sadie primarily kept focused on herself, even when evoking her sister's fame to gain her own attention on stage.
