Where's Toast?

I saw Funny Bones in 1995 when it first came out. At that time, at the beginning (right after the double cross and fight at sea), the Jack Parker character is at the top of a mast on land. Everyone in the town is below asking him to come down and asking what he wants. The only thing he says is that he wants "toast." No one know what this means until a woman (his mother) comes along and nods in understanding. She then leaves and comes back with "Toast," his dog.

The last time I saw this movie, the scene had been cut out. I desperately want the full unedited version as the scene has special meaning to me. I've looked all over for an unedited version or a director's cut of the movie, but can't find one. Anyone have any clues?

Thanks.

Patu, I recently rented the movie from Lovefilm.com - it had the toast scene in it. This would be the normal UK DVD version, I assume.

Hi. I'm the director/writer. If you get the dvd from Amazon, I'm pretty sure it's the full length version. My favourite version of this movie would be about ten minutes longer than it is. The whole Oliver Reed subplot would make more sense. As it stands, there is the feeling that something is missing. However, thanks for your comments. Peter Chelsom.

Dear Peter Chelsom, thanks for your wonderful film, please persuade someone to let you do a Director's Cut version with your extra 10mins. And if poss, without waiting until the BFI take it up as one of THE classic British films of the 1990s!
(The 'Toast' line is indeed on the current DVD)

yes, that's correct.. i purchased the Hollywood Pictures distribution sold BY amazon ... 128 mins, and it DOES have the Toast scenes... Sadly, it doesn't have any special features, such as commentary by actors/directors... This would be a GREAT one for the viewer to get some background on the acts/actors used in the film.. (i wonder what role Joanna Lumley might have had...) keep making these offbeat but fun films! I can see why J Lewis participated in it. /ksf-2

Hi Peter. What happened to the "Funniest Joke in the World" sketch in the DVD version? Made me laugh when I saw it on video a while back! Thanks for making it!
