Why isn't this film on DVD?

This is one of my favourite films, and my video copy is getting worn out. I cannot find it on DVD. Is there a way of persuading film companies to release their films on DVD? It would be such a shame to let it fade away.

In case you haven't found it yet, this film is on Netflix. I looked for it yesterday.

I checked out Netflix and they say this is not available on DVD yet. You only have option to put it on your wishlist for future availability. According to Amazon it is only out on DVD in Region 2 which will not play on DVD's in US. Very aggravating as this is one I want desperately to own! I'm tired of only catching it once in a while on IFC. Is there any place to protest (nicely request) this situation be altered?

I just sent an email to the author Chet Raymo's website, Science Musings. It probably won't help, but I thought it might be worth a shot anyway. Maybe next I'll try the production company.

Great idea, mac diddy, could you post the link? I'd like to add my sentiments, too!

I wrote an email to Mr. Raymo. He was flattered and enthused that I was so interested in getting the DVD, but he had no idea why the production company has not released it on DVD.
Haven't been able to contact the distribution company, I believe it's Fine Line Features in the US.
I have found the DVD in a european format, but it won't work on a US player.

I just found that you can download from Amazon for $9.99 purchase and $2.99 rental. And it works for Macs or PCs, unlike Netflix or Blockbuster. So if you bought it you cold then burn it to DVDR.

It is now available on Netflix Instant Watch but Netflix does not have it on DVD.
