Jen Beals being gagged in 2 Rockwell films

Jennifer Beals was gagged in S. Buscemi's dream sequence in "In the Soup" and then he repeats the same stunt in this film. For an unusual director, why did he repeat himself? (Besides the obvious sexual reasons, folks.)
