What were the nails for?

Did I miss something?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I believe they only asked for them because one of the characters in the Alfred Hitchcock episode asked for nails. It was their way of paying tribute to the show.

Im sure youre exactly right, there is a line when either the black guy or bruce willis asks what the nails are for and tarantino tells them he doesnt know, the guy in "the man from rio" asked for them.

Almost a year later, but, IIRC, in "The Man From the South" the nails and twine are to tie Steve McQueen's hand to the block of wood.

To tie and then nail down the hand so it could not be moved in case he lost...
