Understanding the Bellhop

Many people hated this character, played by Tim Roth, I on the other hand loved it. If you watch the movie again with "Tim Roth is trying to be a Mr Bean-like character" in mind, the film or character will not be as bad.

At first I didn't like his character at all. Mainly because i wasn't too familiar with Tim Roth as an actor and i always thought that Jim Carrey should've played that part. It just fits perfectly to Jim. But now, after watching lots of movies with Tim i started to like his performance in Four Rooms as well. Especially in The Misbehavious and The Man from Hollywood.

I rate this movie a solid 6 out of 10.

I thought he was hilarious in this film !. I'm from the UK, and we usually love that kind of humour here. As the OP said, it's similar to " Mr Bean " , which is a tv programme that was made here .

Agreed, a very good character portrayal, and Ted the Bellhop has a
very nice character continuity throughout all four rooms, regardless
of the differenct directors.
I've heard that the role was originally meant for Steve Buscemi,
but now, whenever I think of a bellboy, can't help but to picutre
him as Tim. :)

It's nothing like Mr.Bean...the SILENT comedy character.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

I'd say it's more in the mannerisms, and I would definitely say Roth has traces of a Mr.Bean influence in the performance, even if he does talk.
