Tim Roth is horrible in this film

One of my pet hates in films is noticing that someone is acting. Before you get all on your high horse and tell me that is what they are doing, let me explain. I hate it when i feel like they are putting it on - not experiencing it, living it, not being it. Tim Roth over acted the hell out of this film. From his stupid bleating voice, to his stupid contrived mannerisms, to his interactions with the other cast, I never once believed him and felt anything. It was like watching a high school drama student who wants to be Charlie Chaplin in some cheap backyard play. Tim is an unbelievable actor in 9 out of ten performances, pity this wasn’t one of the nine; he might have saved this pile of garbage.

i think the overacting is wanted by the directors and tim roth does this work well.
it´s not everyones to over act this way.he was quiet funny.tim roth is indeed a very good actor, one of my favs.the whole film is not very realistic, which is the jumping point for the whole actors.

Tim Roth was the king of this movie. I loved him.

reply

Yeah I didn't really like him in this either, he was annoying.

There is more than one way to act in a film. Tim Roth delivered this performance sensationally. I think the way he acted and used facial expressions in this movie really brought it from being disjointed and at times quite random, into being a really funny film. The glass of milk shot alone made this film.

"Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?"

reply

You're right.
I rewatched the milk sequence because it was acted in such a genius way. Some quality sh*t he delivered ^.^

reply

I agree. He showed to what extent he can take his acting skills and still remain 'in character'. I thought he proved to be extremely versatile in this part and truly shined.

reply

You are a moron........tim roth was awesome in this movie.

reply

Overacting was kind of point... My personal opinion of this film is that it's meant to be like Merry Melodies (anyone remember?) on crack and in live action... If it was a film to be taken seriously I would agree the acting was terrible, but since it's the nature of the writing and the character, the acting was great, and Roth hit the nail on the head.

reply

I agree i felt he was putting it on, his performance wasn't genuine or beleivable (well most of the time sometimes he was quite good).

excuse my language but you are out of your *beep* mind....

He was a very annoying character in this movie.
Only for a few moments in "The Misbehavers" it was actually fitting. But otherwise it was just plain dispicable.

I thought the over acting was great and his mannerisms added to the character. I felt his presence was sort of cartoon like, just a slight comedy between the four different scenes.

reply

I really don't see what's wrong with most of the people here, Tim Roth's acting worked excellently in this movie.

reply

Tim was as good as Jerry Lewis in that film so if you liked Jerry... well, you'll find your match here but I gotta say I felt sorry for Roth for most of the film.

Jen Beal tied up on the chair...hmmmm meaty!

reply

"Tim Roth over acted the hell out of this film."

Agree totally. He was just annoying.

for me the overacting was exactly what the director/s wanted. and fitted to the whole style of the movie.

His acting is so over the top on purpose, but still has some hilarious moments. Anyway I think Buscemi would have played much better "Ted"

reply

uh, the acting wasn't believable because the circumstances weren't believable. it was brilliant. same technique is used in anchorman. The acting is blatantly over the top, so are the situations. He is over reacting because the material calls for it. I wonder how you would act if in those same situations. At first you might feel scared and awkward but after a while you might give in and have some fun. Since it’s a comedy, that’s exactly how Roth should and did play it. I know from experience that when things go from bad to worse I tend to act unconventional and comical. Just when I think it couldn’t get worse, it does, I then decide to have fun. -Why not, I’m still breathing, all is ok.

The Misbehaviors was the best. His reaction to the dead hooker is priceless, and the final shot is unforgettable.

However, some of the material wasn’t too funny and some scenes were way too long. This made Roth’s actions seem out of place and redundant. Overall, he did what he had to do perfectly.

reply

if it were Buscemi, the character would be named "Chet."

Charlie don't surf, and we think he should.

reply

Tim Roth was good in this movie. He did act like a dork in most of the segments but he acted more like a dick/bad-ass in "The Misbehaviors"

Just throwing in here - I think Tim Roth is an incredible actor, but I thought he was crap in this film. A horribly overacted performance.

Just my $0.02.
