First segment: Diana's lost forty years

This bit of plot seems unresolved: if Diana had been turned into a big rock by her rival, I guess we are supposed to accept that the rock has been sitting in the room for forty years? It seems unlikely that the hotel management would never notice it - but ok, that's not really important. (It was too big to move?) It's just that the witches never seem to comment about where the rock has been in all that time.

To digress a bit: it seems that the segment ends about where it should begin. Well, I know the whole point is Ted the bellhop and his dalliance with Eva. But the more promising part is the Rip Van Winkle aspect. What does Diana do when she's realizes she's forty years into the future? How do the witches even tell her about that and what do they propose for her to do next?

If the rival witch was still around she'd be in her sixties or seventies. Diana is actually that age too although although of course she doesn't look it! If would be interesting to see her reactions to the world of the 1990s. She must have been born in the 1920s and then "disappeared" around 1955.

I didn't notice anything about Diana being a singer. She seems to have been an actress of the Bettie Page type. In fact, when Eva shows Ted the "animated photo" the dark-haired woman with Diana does look like Bettie Page.

In the screenplay, Ted struggles to carry one of Athena's bags, because it is insanely heavy. The slab of stone that is Diana turns out to be in this bag.

\o/ STEVE HOLT!

Yes, the slab of stone that Athena brings is described in the script that is posted on-line. However - unless I missed something - the scene didn't make it into the final cut of the movie.

They didn't notice the dead hooker under the matress (despite the smell) or the needle in the drawer. It shows what a crappy hotel it was (BETTY explained its history and current state).

reply

Well yes, although the hotel was still supposed to be a good one in the 1950s when Diana went there originally.

I guess it made more sense that Athenia brought the rock with her, although that scene was either never filmed or got cut.

"This bit of plot seems unresolved"

Wait, there was a PLOT in this segment? It was so godawful I couldn't tell worth a monkey's. And I'll never watch the segment again, so I guess I'll never know. But I'm glad I stuck with it and watched the whole thing, because the 3rd and 4th parts were very funny/entertaining.
