What kind of dog was Rumbo?

I'd like to know. I think he was a cool looking dog.

He's a mix...according to the DVD case, the two canine stars are Full House's "Comet" (the Golden Retriever who played Fluke, whose fur was dyed to give the appearance of a mutt) and Homeward Bound 2's "Barney." So I'm guessing Barney played Rumbo...and also Riley in HB2? I would think. That means, though, that HIS fur was also colored in either Fluke or HB, since it's not the same in both! So heh. He's some kind of mixed breed but I could never even be certain of his true appearance.

He's a Bernese Mountain Dog

The dog is a mixed breed, but just from looking at him, BerNese Mountain Dog is among the most likely breeds to have contributed to his makeup. The previous suggestion (part Border Collie?) is very strange. Of course he *could* be, but it's an odd thing to think of, since he really does not look like a BC. (Now Fluke's mom, maybe that's what he/she thought of?)

Now, here are the once-and-for-all facts regarding the canine actors, because there has been so much questioning about them:

"Barney" is the real-life name of the dog actor who played Rumbo. He is a mixed breed (we don't know what sort, but can take reasonable guesses) and for the role of Riley in Homeward Bound II, his coat was darkened.

"Buddy" is the real-life name of the Golden Retriever actor who played Fluke. Buddy also appeared as Comet on a few episodes of Full House, and was the star of the first Air Bud movie. His coat was darkened for the role of Fluke.
