What type of dog?

Does anyone know which type of dog Fluke is?

reply

Golden Labrador?

Great news Venom fans! Venom gets his own movie!!

reply

I found out that he's a Golden Retriever whose fur was colored darker so that he'd look like the mutt he's supposed to be for this film. ;)

(Fab-me, how could he be a Lab? His coat's too long.)

Thank you :)
I wonder if its safe dying dog's fur like that.. Think of how many weeks/months it would of taken to film this movie and how many times the dog got dirty and needed to be washed..
They would of dyed its fur so many times!

Surely thats unhealthy for his coat and skin!

reply

Yeah, I hope they had a safe, vet-approved way of doing whatever they did to darken him...:/

"Comet - Golden retriever family pet of Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) on the domestic sitcom FULL HOUSE/ABC/1987-95. Danny's girls D.J. (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) often talked to the dog when they had a personal problem. Comet's finest TV moment was blowing out a candle at his first-birthday party. Cristie Miele is Comet's trainer; Ajax the dog was his body double. Comet later starred in the feature film Fluke (1995) with Mathew Modine as a man reincarnated as a dog."

I think I read on Wiki that he was an Irish Setter..
He looks at least part Irish Setter..

The "mother" at the beginning is no way a golden retriever..more some sort of Setter..

This is Fluke i'm talking about.. not the actual Comet..dog..

Come and get it, bitches.

The character does look as if he could be part Irish Setter; the mother dog character was a mutt too, looking like maybe a Border Collie mix or something. I'm sure Comet was colored and trimmed to try and give the appearance of an absolute mongrel who could potentially be a mix of *many* things even if they're not apparent, and given the circumstances of his birth and the fact that he was also a total mutt in the novel, that's very likely what he (as a character) is. At *any* rate, every dog and human involved with this film did an amazing job and I'm certain that it will always remain one of the most moving movies I've ever seen. :']

Lil' Fluke looks like a Chesapeake Bay retriever. What a cute dog!

Hi, everybody!

Yup, what breed is he? This is what I thought I knew for sure. A while ago, when I checked the related page in Wikipedia (I was collecting info 'bout the movie), I found out that he'd been identified as an "Irish Setter".
I'm a dog handler, and I know much 'bout dogs and breeds. It was evident (for me, at least) that neither Fluke nor Comet were NEVER Irish Setters. One who misidentified the breed was, most likely, deluded by the color of Fluke's coat (which is normally called "liver"). Yup, there are dark brown Irish Setters, so the delusion's quite popular. But if you ever look just a bit more intently, you'll probably see the difference. All of it.
I could see the difference. But still I made a mistake. A stupid one.
So, being absolutely sure of what I knew, I altered that Wikipedia article a little. Yup, I was that "expert" who misidentified Fluke as a "Flat-Coated Retriever". I'm awfully sorry for the inaccuracy. I do hope, my mistake never caused anything disastrous.
Nowadays, when I stumbled across this discussion, I was pretty sure, I only had to smile and recur and point to that corrected Wikipedia article. How badly stupid I was, again!..

Now, after a short but useful investigation, I've found this very interesting page: http://jaehakim.com/articles/film/features/comet.htm

Finally, we know the truth. Comet is a Golden Retriever. And Fluke... Fluke is Comet's best role! : )

Oh, don't worry about the Flat Coat thing! I undid that revision, but I knew it was an honest mistake and not ridiculous vandalism. :) Yup, that article 'splains it all, too! Nice. ^.~
