Why did everyone keep calling Matt 'Matty' here?

Matt was about 12 here, almost a teenager and not really a little kid anymore, so it was a little annoying how George & Nina kept calling him that.

Putting the "ee" sound onto most boys' names is totally fine (i.e. Billy, Johnny, Tommy, Danny) and even lots of adult guys go by those too. But there's certain ones you just can't do it with (including Matt, along with like Pat or Chris) because IT INSTANTLY TURNS THEM INTO GIRLS' NAMES!

I've seen people in real life do that too when they're purposely trying to make a boys' name sound more cutesy, and it's stupid. I bet Matt got teased in school if his friends or the other kids heard it, lol.

I know a man in his 40's who we all still call Matty. Granted, he's homeless. Not saying anything about his character because he's homeless. But I'm sure the name didn't help him.

It's been a few years since the OP but my friend is 40 and is referred to as Glenny even though his name is Glenn
