Costume Designer - Horrible!

The costume design in this film was awful. Mickey Rourkes leather jacket with huge lapelles was hideous and no one in the 50's ever wore anything like that. Also The sunglasses the David Arquette wears are very modern and didnt exist in the 50's either.

I just remembered that jacket that Micky wears looks the same as the on Michael Jackson wore in the Thriller video.

I thought he looked like a greaser type hood and fit in fine with the movie.

I agree with sweetest99. I remember seeing an old picture with some guy with a really cool jacket that looked modern. And I remember thinking that the jacket made the picture look like a modern picture photoshooped to look old. Infact, alot of Mexican actors wore clothes like that. I remember. The only thing I agree on is the glasses but who knows. Maybe they did but they werent very popular at the time.

Sorry Marchelo_Cesare & Sweetest69, you guys are both wrong. The only thing similar they had back then was what they call "Hollywood Jackets". They were three quarter and had lapels but they were made of gabardine not leather. They also never had massive belts like the one Rourke was wearing. It was a totally different look. The sunglasses worn by Arquett & Rourke simply did not exist in the 50's.

The sunglasses and jacket were anachronistic; however I still enjoyed the movie. :)

Wrong; the sunglasses everyone wore were very much 1950's; you know Ray Ban "clubmasters" are merely exact replicas of 19590's (and earlier) eyewear? Same thing with the Wayfarer style. as far as Rourke's jacket goes, it was odd, but that style DID exist in the 1950's actually. It just wasn't worn by alot of people, other than a certain criminal/gangster element. Calling that jacket "80's" is as ludicrous as calling Elvis Presley's style "80's." The 1980's fashions often borrowed heavily from the 50's style. Now this film did not have the gigantic budget that something like "Pleasantville" had, but for what they had, I thought the film had a very cool and very authentic look to it. Maybe you just can't apprecciate films with a lower budget. maybe it wasn't 'mainstream' enough for you?
