There are several strong pieces of evidence that support her involvement.
- [00:11:45] Leon is jealous because Florence seems to have Patty on the mind, asking "It's got something to do with Patty don't it?” While this does not elaborate on their relationship, it can be inferred that Patty knows Florence. Leon knows about her at the very least.
- [00:12:20] Florence and Leon walk through the heist. At 9:50, Leon was to wait for Patty to open the bank. While this does not overtly support that she is in on the heist, there are several ways to interpret this:
a) Florence could have been using her.
b) Presumably Patty would be handling tasks she normally would have performed.
c) She knew when the heist would occur because Florence filled her in.
- [00:44:35] Tim and Florence discuss the heist. Tim, is supposed to: walk in the front door, head over to the Loan Officer’s Desk (Patty), pull the gun on her, take her to the vault, and then Florence would enter the scene, shouting “FBI”. He threatens Tim with violence if he hurts Patty. This elaborates on the plan and to a lesser extent the relationship between Patty and Florence. One can argue:
a) Florence has an emotional attachment to Patty, enough to promise Tim that he would blow his head off if she was harmed
b) Since she would have been held at gun point in either innocent/accomplice scenario, she is at least inadvertently involved by opening the vault and being used as perceived leverage as a ‘hostage’.
- [00:51:44] The heist itself, suggests involvement. When Florence shouts “FBI” she goes along with the act, proclaiming “Thank God!.” Even if the woman held captive is actually innocent bystander ‘Carol’, he’s wearing street clothes, rather than a typical black suit synonymous with FBI and fails to show a badge. There would be no reason to assume she was safe or that he was a federal agent, yet she acts relieved. However it is important to consider:
a) If she is actually Patty, she obviously would not interact with Florence, because she would incriminate herself. This is the only time both characters appear in the same scene. Given the context of the robbery, we never see them directly interact to ascertain if the hostage is anyone other than Patty.
b) If she is Carol, she would not know Florence, and could simply assume that the man proclaiming to be an agent was just a man trying to help her and scare away her perceived captor.
- [00:52.00] Patty’s car is parked near an exit, for a convenient get away.
- [01:04:13] Patty’s car has several suitcases. Moreover, she packs a pair of shoes and med kit which convey she planned ahead. But these could also be general items anyone could have.
- [01:12:28] Leon asks “Where is Patty?” Although the full details of the plan are never revealed, it can be inferred that:
a) Patty would have been taken “hostage” had the boys not interfered
b) She would have had the money with her
- [01:19:43] The version of the heist she tells Tim. The events she envision suggests how the heist was intended to go, indicating she was aware of the plan. Moreover, the imagery conveys she knows what Leon looks like despite the fact that the two were not shown to have interacted. The imagined events add further support she was an accomplice. Based on the costuming, Leon was likely intended to shout “FBI”, while Florence was intended to hold Patty hostage. This indicates that Leon was supposed to have been killed in the crossfire (eventually rectified in the shack), leaving Florence and Patty to escape together, with the money.
So, in summation. Sheryl Lee is badass.
