If you liked this film then you may want to check out the "Whispering Corridors" series. The first one has more of a pervasive horror element, while the second one is really more of a drama with supernatural overtones that increase somewhat later in the film. Both films could be viewed simply for their commentary on friendship, society, and the hell of being a Korean schoolgirl, and they're equally enjoyable if for somewhat different reasons.

Though not in the "freaky stuff goes down at school" setting, you may also enjoy some other Korean horror films such as "Dead Friend" and "A Tale of Two Sisters", both of which involve young female characters in frightening / creepy situations. I thought "Dead Friend" was definitely fun and creepy, probably even above average in some ways (compared to the zillions of similar films in the Asian horror genre), but "A Tale of Two Sisters" is fantastic - definitely one of the standouts.

Also, try the "Tomie" series of Japanese horror films, each of which is fairly different (both in theme, style, and quality), with all of them at least worth a Netflix rental. I'd definitely start with the first one, but after that it's not really necessary to go in order since the basic concept is the same through each film. The second installment, however, is a shot-on-video lower-budget retelling, so if you were going to skip one, I'd say skip Anaza Feisu or maybe just see it last if you really enjoy the series.

Tomie: Replay

Tomie: Saishuu-shô - kindan no kajitsu / Tomie: The Final Chapter - Forbidden Fruit

Finally, check out "Uzumaki" - a personal favorite - but think of it as more of a twisted and darkly humorous comic book than a horror film. It's got more than its share of freaky stuff in it, don't worry, but you can't take it as literally as most of these other films or it'll just seem silly in parts.

Most (if not all) of these films are now available on Region 1 DVD, but sometimes you can find really nice special editions that require a region-free / all-region DVD player. Try sites like DVD Asian, HKFlix, and Poker Industries for more of these films, mostly in R2, R3, and R0 versions, though they do carry some R1 as well, and often sell (or have links to places that sell) region-free DVD players. Also worth checking out (especially if you have a region-free DVD player) is Nicheflix, which is basically Netflix with an incredible selection of films from around the world, often in region-specific versions.

Comprehensive answer - well done. Don't forget that there are 4 DVDs in the Whispering Corridors set now, & they, Tale of Two Sisters, Uzumaki etc are all available subbed in English. Which brings me to my question, I have only recently come across Wizard of Darkness, is it available subbed? Incidentally, does anyone still sell DVD players that are not region-free? How quaint.

Check out the direct to video Ju-on movies and the more famous ones that came out after, they actually have quite abit of that ritual/magic type stuff like put this magic object here and it will ward off the spirit haunting the house kind of stuff. I love it
