Everyone was smoking CONSTANTLY, no matter what they were doing. Eating, masturbating, riding a motorcycle, constant smoking!! Why was that?

The characters are a bunch of young, lonely criminals, in China, in the 90s, living mostly at night and in bars. Of course they smoke!
