Obvious Connection

DRACULA, DEAD AND LOVING IT has many similarities to the 1924 play “Dracula, the Original Vampire Play.” This play is even the basis for the 1931 classic DRACULA movie. Apparently Bela Lugosi portrayed the role of Dracula in this play first, and was later recast in the role for the 1931 movie. “Dracula, the Orginal Vampire Play” was the first story to change the characters of Bram Stoker’s book, such as: practically combining the characters of Mina and Lucy; making Lucy the daughter of Dr. Seward; changing Jonathan Harker into Lucy’s lover; and giving Renfield a more prominent role in the story. All of these plot points were reflected in DRACULA, DEAD AND LOVING IT. While it parodied many other vampire films, it surprises me that no one else has made the connection between this movie and the play.
