quite simply, an absolutely amazing film

i cannot believe people dont like this film

reply

i know why because:
Bad Acting
Bad Direction
Bad Script
Unlikible characters
Rip off of good movies like:Kalifornia,Natural born killers and True Romance
and Gregg Arakki is friggin hack who can't write or direct any movie ever
I Hate Gregg Arakki

reply

only retards! dont like this movie.

reply

Hate's a strong word.
Just take it for what it is, personally I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not supposed to be a dramatic social or political statement, it's enter-friggin'-tainment. Leave it at that.

"It's not supposed to be a dramatic social or political statement, it's enter-friggin'-tainment. Leave it at that."

Are you serious (or sentient)? How in the name of Hell can a movie in which macho jocks with swastikas on their chests who rape a woman with the virgin mary on an American flag while the national anthem plays before chopping off the penis of a man perceived to be gay NOT be a dramatic social or political statement about America and its concomitant xenophobia and homophobia?

If that scene is not a statement then water isn't wet (and movie goers are sadly bereft of their senses).

I believe that it is possible to be so superficial that relevance is achieved. I like this movie, if it is just meaningless worthless garbage, why are there so many naysayers? If people really hate it with a passion then it has merit.

reply

Well said my friend. This movie is something unique and horribly beautiful.

Nicely said.

How can it NOT be compared to Kalifornia or Natural Born Killers?

Frankly, we "dumb, ignorant kunts" get it fully. It's a stupid, over-the-top, tasteless, terrible film that relies on shock value and obvious social commentary (OMG every time they buy something it comes out as $6.66! ooh how SYMBOLIC! Oh, and the Red, White and Blue of their last names, how CLEVER!! Not to mention the lame-ass message of "Oh, today's teenagers are soooo precious and the world is soo terrible and they're the real victims here") to make up for the complete lack of substance to be found. Rarely have I found a movie that fails on every single level, but the direction, acting (I have never found a worse performance in cinema history than James Duval's "performance" here), and writing are all equally terrible. Frankly, the only people who do claim to like this movie are pretentious, snobby little "kunts" like you who claim to like certain movies to make yourself look smarter. Please, tell me what we all didn't get, because I'd love to know.

NOTE: Despite how utterly horrible this movie is, I do think Gregg Araki is a decent filmmaker otherwise, Mysterious Skin is one of my favorite movies.

reply

eh, I would never pick this movie as way to make me look smarter.

I'll tell you what you didn't get and the underlying message that I got. It's very simple and a very basic fact of life that we tend to forget and that fact +is that sex is god, good sex is the only thing to really live for, that's all we first and foremost truly want, is to fuhck...

...I liked Mysterious Skin but how could you ever watch that again, unless you really like little boys.

There is no need to slag off people for liking this film. Regarded the symbolism is overtly obvious and much of it could be viewed as pretentious but so are many other films. Just because you don't like a film there is no need to judge others for liking it, voice your opinions on why you think it's bad but don't criticise people like me for enjoying it. I think majority of films use other films influences to build on their own ideas and in many ways this film is original. I have never heard such a prentious comment before or someone that contradicts themselves so much. Mysterious skin takes many ideas from the doom generation and builds on them. I think before you start calling people "snobby little kunts" you should research the films in greater depth and not just voice your aggressive behaviour to us all.

The problem with alot of people is that they are reading to much in to this movie, you should just see it as movie that's realy realy enjoiable with some friends when you come back from the pub. It's just a realy enjoiable no brainer.

reply

at first, I too thought that the acting was fuhking horrible (especially James Duval), but then I though that tha's what he's supposed to act like... like some high, lost teen... y'know?

maybe I'm wrong... but, I don't know... people who act like that Jordan character really do exist... at least I think so :P 'cuz I don't know anyone like that

reply

EXACTLY........
You nailed it

People can repeat a million times how bad this movie is, but anyone with simple knowledge of cinema, understands that Araki is auteur, that means director who has his individual vision and don't make movies after some patterns.
People who dislike this movie are square majority, who cant relate to the aesthetics of the movie and characters, so obviously they hate it.

I can believe it completely. Confrontational, angry, nihilistic - it's very much a love-or-hate film, some people just don't want to see that. I pity them.

Once, I even called him... Airhead.
