Not really, if anything even with the alternate/original ending of DHWV its somewhat feasible to imagine john would've gone from a a fired cop of the NYPD to security guard many years later long after DHWV. Yet hunted down Simon Gruber in Europe and killed him as he did.
Then turned up many years later in Washington D.C. as a former cop who is now a contracted; Security Guard. The original ending of the third movie doesn't really alter, change up or really stop Die Hard 4 from ever happening at all. If anything it only further supports it given McClane's more pissed off bitter attitudes in the fourth and fifth DH movies along with his advancing age and what have you!
