PERFECT ENDING

It's action-packed, yes, but at least it keeps in tone with the rest of the movie.

McClane shoots NOT the wire to the sign, but the connection WITH the sign at the truckstop, making the electrical cables fall towards Simon's chopper, which makes him panic and that stupid dumb woman drives them into a large lamppost of some sort, killing them instantly and leaving them to burn in fiery hell.

Then Zeus laughs a bit and tells McClane he should finish the call he started with Holly. Credits roll.

It's fun, concise, and is in keeping with the rest of the film.

The main thing I don't like about it (even though I love the movie as a whole) is the fact that the ending doesn't really doesn't keep the tone from the rest of the movie. The entire movie takes place in New York City during a hot summer's day. Then all the sudden for the last few minutes they're in Canada at night. It feels tacked on, and unnecessarily so. They had a good location for a nice climax on the boat. I don't understand what chasing Simon to Canada for quick kill adds to the movie. None of it really fits. Character motivations seem to have changed. Zeus is no longer an un-willing participant, he's along just for fun apparently. He barely escaped with his life only to rush back into danger for the sake of closure? And even though Simon revealed earlier that killing McClane was just a "bonus", he decides to finish "something personal" and go after him instead of trying to get away with the money, which was supposedly his main motivation.

The ending at the truck stop WAS actually hastily filmed at the last minute.....the original ending was the NYPD figured McClane was working in cahoots with Simon and kicked him off the force.... Meanwhile, Simon had all the gold bars smelted down into little figurines of the Empire State Building to smuggle them out.... And Simon also double crossed all his guys as well, and absconded with all the gold.... Much later, disgraced and dishonored, McClane catches up to Simon at a coffee shop in Hamburg or Turkey or somewhere, and decides to play a game kinda like Russian roulette only with a disposable rocket launcher...McClane holds a gun on Simon telling him one end of the similar shaped ends of the launcher will launch the rocket, and of course Simon loses.... The producers of DHWAV decided that this ending made McClane look to mean and barbaric, and it was scrapped altogether.... Though, this alternate ending can still be found on YouTube
