Horrible acting

Wow,I cannot believe no one else commented on what terrible acting this movie had! It had some of the worst Southern accents I've ever heard, and once again a Southerner was portrayed as being backward and ignorant.I have seen the American Justice special on this crime, so that is why I watched the movie, but please be warned the story is semi interesting, but the terrible acting by Tony , Pamela and the younger kids will make you wince.

Does anyone have a link to the true story? I would like to read it.

I agree. I just watched it and though Danza made me cringe, I thought she did pretty well.

i thought all accents were terrible.. im from wv and at the beginning they were talkin wvu football on radio.. was this supposed to have taken place in wv? if soo, noone i know has an accent like those..lol

His accent wasn't all that bad, I mean its a movie. The accent he was trying to get across was the Tidewater accent of Va and that is a one of a kind accent after all.

I agree, the dropped accents, especially Tony's Bronx bubba, kept taking me out of the movie. The older daughter was especially annoying. After her bratty tantrum, I was rooting for her to get dead.

The only actor/role I liked from begging to end was the mother, Pamela Reed. Her accent kept dropping too, but it wasn't as jarring.

I wouldn't mind seeing the story done with another set of actors.

Oh, I liked Ving Rhames too. He wasn't on screen much, though.

Well, I think we all have to think, they are acting a part. Its hard to speak the way some do. I did not think it was that bad as far as the accent. I live in Va and SOME people do speak like that.
As for southerners being portrayed backward and ignorant in the movie, have you ever seen the real family? They didn't seem like the most intelligent family in the world.

I just saw this the other day. I could`nt stop laughing at Tony Danza! We`re all so use to the way he usually talks. Why on earth was he in this movie? It was distracting.... otherwise, a very interesting case.

danza! danza! danza!

I liked Danza's acting here too.
He was convincing to me as a severely mentally troubled man. I actually felt both anger & heartbreak for his character, which (especially for a bad-guy character) is a sign of a good actor!
His accent needed a little work, but hey accents are difficult after all.
