An excellent Vietnam War film

In my mind, at least, this film is just as important as Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Full Metal Jacket in the Vietnam War Movie oeuvre.
The book ‘Bloods’ also provides added perspective.
War really is terrible. I think these sort of films try to teach us that by providing unique perspectives.

Not to disagree nor nitpick, but the story dealt with more of these veterans feeling the hard times and urge to embrace crime life as an escape from ptsd and poverty. Great movie

That’s true, and that’s why I find the film fascinating. It isn’t necessarily a war film, but the Vietnam war experience, and its effect on the characters, is like glue that holds the narrative together.
This movie always comes to mind when I think of Vietnam war flicks, because it is depicted in such a viscerally brutal way, even though the actual war is only a brief chapter in the whole story.
