Cleon uses an M3 Grease Gun?

I just realised I recognised the gun Cleon uses in the Vietnam scenes, and its one of the old tank crew guns from WW2. I thought this gun had been phased out by Vietnam, but found this article on wiki that says that the US was still issuing these guns right up to the early 90s.

Always thought this gun looked really mean to fire!

You kiddin'?

When I first joined in early 1998 I had to help inventory the arms room. We had two of them in there until sometime a few years later. The thing is a piece of stamped metal garbage. Much heavier than it looks and you couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it.

I live in the UK though where all but licensed sports firearms and shotguns are illegal. I'd rule the streets with an M3 grease gun!

I read they were easier and cheaper to produce than Tommy guns in WW2 hence there's still a lot of em floating around in the states. Kinda reminds me of the Brit Sten gun in that respect...

Quite right on all counts.

The Germans had their MP40, the Brits had their Sten, we got the Grease gun.

The Grease gun wasn't as bad as most folks put out

It had a slower rate of fire than the Thompson, but was lighter and more compact, ideal for airborne and tank operations

Fired a .45 caliber which will ruin your day if you get hit with it

Sub-Machine Guns in general aren't very accurate, but the idea was to get rounds out there

Inside 50yds it did very well.

our Howitzer mechanics carried them in 1988-90 when I was at Ft Stewart.

When the Army put together the anti terrorist unit Delta in the late 70's their primary submachine gun was the M3.
