This is the fundamental note...

My favorite scene in the movie was the hurling of the gasoline bomb. It is so vivid, brutal, and real.
My second favorite might be the AK-47.
What scenes do you people like?

reply

All of it! Seriously, this is a movie that should be seen more, if for no other reason than the breathtaking cinematography. I think one of my favorite scenes was when Lullaby man makes short work of that victim tied to the chair as he sings him a song. Yikes! So brutal, so cold! I also loved the firebombing scene, as well as the scene directly after that where Cyclo boy is covered in muck, leaning against the wall in the apartment, covered in creepy-crawlies.

A damn fine job! See it, and see it post-haste!

the scene in the park by the MIG with the singer

really captured the almost maudlin romanticism of some bits of vietnamese culture...

My favourite scene is the part where "the poet" reads a beautiful poem and you see old and young people standing in the sunlight with their eyes closed. (The music really makes it for me in these scenes)

Also when the same man cuts open a leaf and sees the white texture underneath for the first time and spoiling the moment by bleeding on it.

And when Cyclo puts his head in the aquarium and the fish eats the bugs of his face while the black mud rains down on it.

I could go on and on. This is the best movie i have ever seen.

maybe my all time favorite movie, with the possible exception of "last life in the universe". the way the movie depicts viet nam is how it truly is. i have spent considerable time there, and everytime i watch this movie it makes me long for a return. Tony leung chiu-wai and the underappreciated beauty of tran nu yen-khe make this movie unbelievable. as for my favorite scene, the scene in the park with the singer is just lovely, but the ending is great as well.

Its interresting that you mention "last life in the universe", its also one of my favourite films next to this one.

What do you think is the common denomenor between the films?

reply

i don't know if there is a common demeanor between the two films, but both have great cinematography, interesting stories, lead actors from different countries than where the films were produced, and beautiful lead actresses. recipe for success right there.

my_co82 is interesting that you mentioned Cyclo as one of your all-time favorite films. I'm interested to hear the rest of your list.

You're so soft, you make me hard
I'll put you on a movie, don't you wanna?

reply

The whole film is impressive, it has images and cinematography that stuck with you.

I think my favorite scene is when the cyclo-boy covers himself with blue paint under the flashing lamp. This scene seems so real and surreal at the same time!!!
