I think I saw this movie a long time ago when I was a kid. Was there a rotting corpse in a cage or something? Can someone explain how it went?

Just like heads on pikes, the bodies left to the seagulls in cages were a warning of what would happen to pirates and other wrong doers.

Yeah, but did it show the body in the cage? I faintly remember being really grossed out by this part. What did it actually show?

Yes, a skinless corpse being picked at by ravens. It's in the backdrop during the slave auction scene.
