Regarding the accuracy of the movie, you kind of have to check that logic at the door for this film. Bruno, the director, was apparently less concerned about fact-checking than he was about...uh...well, I'm not sure. It certainly wasn't the compelling storyline, high quality production, or (with apologies to my wife) the high quality of acting!

Heh...you're preaching to the choir, my man. There are so many inaccuracies with this film that it's become a cult classic for how bad it is. I'd not be surprised if, one day, we hear about teenagers flocking to see the film at midnight - all dressed up in their favorite character's clothes and singing songs akin to Time Warp.
The only reason I can vouch for the Miami filming is that my wife played the role of Gloria in the film.
