Anyone here seen 'Down Periscope'? It's a comedy, so no way should it be taken seriously, but there is an aspect to it (and a few other submarine movies) that is in direct contrast to 'Crimson Tide', and that's noise.

In DP, there is a scene where they are trying to stay silent, and one of the crew members farts, the sound being picked up by the other submarine.

So then we watch 'CT', and only the external sounds of the winch are heard, not the internal sounds of the Captain yelling at everyone over the speaker systems.

Does anyone know what the truth of the matter is regarding submarines trying to stay silent?

It is possible for internal noise on a sub to be picked up, but only at VERY VERY close range. For all practical purposes... No.

Crews do try to be as silent as possible in regards to footsteps, slammed hatches, dropped tools and the like, but a noise such as farting, or crew voices... no.
Shouting or yelling may be heard, but again... only if very very close.

Not to mention they don't even have Doctors aboard Subs. same as most surface ships outside of Carriers, Certain Amphibs, and Hospital Ships... Most surface ships and Subs, have 1-3 HMs or Hospital Corpsmen (which are Enlisted) aboard... that's all.

Also... His profile pic is lifted from someone else's website. Some Rajesh Agarwala dude that is a managing director of some company in Bangalore.

No. At least you can't assume it. Read the definition. My buddies in Glasgow, Amsterdam and Kampala are aliens by this definition.

Yes. His claim in the past was that he had been on boomers as part of his equally fictitious spec op work. Now he's progressed in his fantasy world to claiming to have been a submarine sailor.

Ordinarily I'd get irritated at an imposter claiming to be part of the submarine community. But this clown is so pathetic it isn't worth it. "Ship's Doctor" my a$$. I'll bet he couldn't find his way from the torpedo room to the crew's mess without getting lost.

Why in an early scene are the crew listening to loud music and singing? That seems out of order.
