One of the best Jon Voight roles + a good movie

Sadly, this TV movie isn't a well known film, as of June 2010 it doesn't even have a Wiki entry, but Jon Voight is a great actor and this is one of his best roles ever. He is utterly flawless in this. The other actors are good, too, but he is in another dimension.

BTW, if you like Voight, watch The General, another great TV movie he did about one of the great heists.

This also has Stephen McHattie, a very good actor who was the lead detective on Cold Squad, the Canadian cop show, also Glenn Plummer, a very good actor who played the falsely accused man in Reversible Errors with William H. Macy.

The story here isn't the best, but it is okay, and the directing is excellent. Some suspension of disbelief is required here, as I am unaware of any prisons that let murderers with life sentences go on horseback outside the prison.

The rodeo action is amazing and the rodeo stock is excellent. I couldn't even believe how they could have shot the final rodeo scene with the bull, as there is no way to plan what a bull will do, but I read on the American Humane Association website that the rodeo action was all taken from documentaries:

(Sorry, it is poorly written, what the American Humane Association doesn't know about writing and web programming could fill a warehouse.)

It looks 100% correct and I could not tell they were inserting old footage.

My usual recommendation here, this good film is a must-see for rodeo fans.
