I think this movie's problem was that the director Frank Marshall was trying to score another hit like he did five years earlier with Arachnophobia which had a similar blend of horror and comedy. But Congo wasn't meant to be comical, as silly as the premise is. Once you add Tim Curry, the ape costumes, and the campy tone it's a recipe for failure. That being said, I liked the movie way better than I thought I would. I'd like a remake thought that's closer to the book.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Actually, I didn't think it was all that far from the book. There were differences, but they didn't affect the overall theme of the movie. In the book there was not the conflict between Ross and Travis, (Travis was more human in the book) Kelly was White, not Black, and they took a few 'samples' back with them. These were rather minor, i think.
