If they had done a CGI Apes in 1995. It would have looked like Sh!t.

Jurassic Park did not have to work with Hair. CGI was still very new at the time and they were not up to snuff at the time to pull off realistic CGI Apes. Hell even in 1999 Jar Jar Binks still looked like a cartoon. If they had done CGI Apes at that time. It would have looked a hell a lot worse than some guy in an ape suit. Even Jurassic Park used animatronics when I could and Cgi only when they had to. Congo has a lot of flaws. But the Animatronic Apes were not one of them.

Ironically the hair in this is horrendous. Looks like a bad toupee stapled to a mannequin.

reply

That's true. If they used CGI the apes would've looked like the ones from "Beast Wars"

Maximize!

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

reply

I disagree. Jumanji came out the same year and had CGI monkeys that looked fine.

reply

The CGI monkeys did NOT look fine at all, even bsck then.

The lion looked a little better.

Yeah, the technology was not ready for CGI apes in 1995. It wasn't even close.

Today we can do amazing things; just look at the recent Planet of the Apes movies. But in 1995? No. They made the right choice for Congo, a movie that's not actually all that good, but it does have a certain charm to it.

DEPENDS...COULD HAVE BEEN A JURASSIC PARK OR A LANGOLIERS...

reply

I don't know how good they could have made the CGI, but people dressed up in ape suits doesn't account for the appalling script.

Personally, as one of my favourite so-bad-it's-good movies, I wouldn't change much about it.
