Significance of Assistant

I just watched this movie in class and thought the editing and cinematography was fantastic.

However one thing left me scratching my head. Is there something signifcant to Alfred Hitchcock's assistant? I got the feeling at one point she would play a significant role in the plot but didn't really see it shine through. At one point i remember a line something like " There's something I need to tell you". Then it cuts to her in her car driving along a highway.

Why? What does she represent if anything. I kind of thought she played as a usherer of change for the family...but im not sure.

i shared similar views and questions...what do u think of the significance of the fish that defrosted overnight in the toilet while they slept at Marc's girl's place (she looks after his kid).

On the surface it just seems like a device to show the passage of time...but when the door opened and that purple coloured light came through onto them, my thoughts changed.

Pierre sort of wakes up a different man after than incident-- he gets tatooed and Marc is out the house before he gets up. Perhaps it symbolizes a new awakening-- a different beginning...a melting away of old ties and the creation of new ones.

Just speculating...

" There's something I need to tell you".
This phrase is spoken by Marc's lover and then we see Alfred Hitchcock's assistant (Kristin Scott Thomas) driving a car; this is just reference to Psycho; then we see her in church where camera crew is working; adventitiously she speak about young priest because she need someone who translate communication. My vhs timer tells me that these scenes are at runtime 1 h 11 m.
The movie is really good.
