This movie is the perfect example of what gated communities are becoming with their overbearing "homeowner associations". Anyone thinking of moving into one of these places really needs to watch this movie first. It wouldn't shock me one bit if one (or many) of these places already exists.
Nine years after your post, the processed has speed up. The U.S. is becoming The Colony on steroids. Now the courts are saying that drones flying over you and facial recognition are OK - "It's for your safety".
yeah...my townhouse community is similar to this. you cant wear bright clothes while jogging inside the community. if they hear kids laughing they would complain. little normal daily noise would be considered a nuisance. oh yeah this is in San Francisco, CA. ^_^
Does anyone have any info on Todd Jeffries? He played Mike Knowlton in this movie. Just want to know how old he is and if he is married or not. Thanks!!!
Our condo association is currently considering the following additions to our "cc&r"s:
1. No outdoor equipment that uses open flame (ie, BARBEQUES!)
2. No children allowed to play on community property (ie, in front of their own homes)
3. No vehicles with advertisements on them allowed on community property (too bad if you're a small business owner with your business name and phone number on it).
I was hoping I could find this movie on DVD to send to our association board of directors.
This movie makes the covenant of not having a clothesline trivial. The people in The Colony made themselves prisoners in a gilded prison and the price they paid for security against the criminals outside was too much.
There's a place in an upscale section of Wilmington, Delaware called Rockford Tower condominiums. It's not a gated community, but they have rules and regulations just as ridiculous. I once had the (dis)pleasure of reading their "Code of Conduct" binder which is distributed to all residents...wow. Just wow.
