Horrible Ending
The chick takes his confession that he's a contract killer in stride- I sorta get that from the shock. Then he goes and kills everybody connecting him to the business- I sorta get that but I don't see how that business had ANY power with just Riegert, Loggia and his dumb fat assistant running and enforcing the entire thing. I don't get how it's THAT easy for him to do what he did. Then he tells his girlfriend that he will kill himself in front of her and she basically doesn't react. Then he says he's going to commit a murder suicide unless she accepts his love. She goes "aww, that's so sweet!" and they have champagne and it's over. WTF? Someone didn't make a second draft or didn't think through the third act AT ALL!
And what was all that middle school stuff about love? They'd been on two and a half dates, this guy acts like an automaton and she apparently has never been with anybody who wasn't abusive so he suddenly qualifies as mister perfect for being completely indifferent and eerily direct?
It's a wonderful performance by Priestly and the first two-thirds are nearly golden, but what an illogical and momentum defusing third act!
