Very Similar to the movie AMELIE

I just saw this movie and found it very similar. It had an enchanting young woman fixing the lives of very quirky people. Great film. I enjoyed both of them very much.

Anyone who loves Cold Comfort Farm would love Amelie. Good thought. The screen adaptation of Cold Comfort Farm is not only faithful to the novel, it's a celebration of it. Treat yourself and read the book.

Yes~ You are so right! I hadn't thought about how similar they are.

No wonder I like them both!

Amelie has been one of my favourite films ever since it came out and I totally agree with you - I thought of Amelie whilst watching this film for the first time just now as well. One major difference that I could see in the story structure however was that whilst Amelie is similarly able to interfere in the lives around her and improve the situations of many of her neighbours, she is clueless in actually knowing how to help herself a lot of the time. Whereas in comparison Flora is, from the get-go, confidently competent in looking after herself and her own interests (as well as helping better the lives of those around her.)
I wonder if the tale of Cold Comfort Farm had in any way influenced Jean Pierre Jeunet about Amelie?

Like some of the others, I'd seen both Amelie and Cold Comfort Farm but, until you pointed it out, never noticed the comparison. You are spot on:)

Maybe there's a similar message (in subtly--or not--changing others' lives) but I found Amelie very different from this film. Love them both, however, so there is some correspondence between the two films.

Very good observation!

Although they're entirely different on many levels, I can see why you mused on the two films as having a closely shared, even defining, element.

Hrm!

I thought so too!

Nope. I totally disagree with this, despite everyone else on this board thus far agreeing with you. The character in Amelie is shy and down-to-earth. Flora Poste in Cold Comfort Farm is a bit too smug, and thinks she's superior to the family she's staying with. I could go on and on.
