6.8??? Underrated

Spike Lee hasn't made many godo movies lately, but this movie is fantastic. Loved it when ti first came out and watched it again last night, still just as good.

It is raw, has great acting and is just very well made overall. Harvey Kietel is great in it and imo is one of the better 'ghetto' gangster type movies.

Anyone else think the score of 6.8/10 is a bit low? Its a 8/10 for me personally.

I AGREE! IT'S MY FAVORITE SPIKE LEE FILM AND IT IS IN MY TOP 10 FAVORITE MOVIES EVER! IT SHOULD BE IN THE TOP 250 EASILY

Could not agree more, this rating baffles me. I would say this is at least an 8, possibly a 9, and right up there wil Malcolm X. The acting, writing and directing are truly flawless. I have seen this movie probably ten times and every time it comes on I get sucked in.

I almost wonder if the low rating is due to how dark and depressing the movie is.

Don't take any review on IMDB too seriously, it's mostly a popularity contest. You'll see something plain like "The Hunger Games" get 10's or something similar, just because fans in passing come on the site to get info and then rate the movie high since they probably just saw it and haven't reflected on it any.

This was an extremely well crafted film in just about every regard, and you can definitely use it measure Spike Lee's potential. I do think that he's gone downhill in recent years, some artists can overstay their welcome, but this is a great illustration of why people paid attention to him. Extremely underrated on this site and probably in the public perception.

Yup it`s excellent, a clear-eyed, mournful look at the inner city sorry-ass crime situation; my favourite Lee flick as well. Almost seems like The Wire took over some years later where Clockers left off.

to me this movie is pretty average overall but it was decent enough for a viewing even though it's not a movie ill care to see again which means it's a thumbs down. i give it a 6/10 (while not bad, is ultimately a thumbs down). the following two on the other hand...

-Menance II Society (1993)
-Boys n the Hood (1991)

...are the cream of the crop for this genre. i give those both a 8/10 as they are definitely more interesting than this movie here is and those i do re-watch.

p.s. Spike Lee's best movie is '25th Hour' (2002) (8.5-9/10) with 'Do The Right Thing' (1989) (7.5-8/10) being in 2nd place.

Actually think it's about right. Too stylistic for my taste. I actually wish spike had did this movie later in his career when he realized that he doesn't have to do his trademark tricks to make a movie breath. The book had a realistic quality about it that Lee ignored because he was caught up with his own style. The dialog, sweeping cameras and out of place soundtrack just took all the realism out of the story.
