Widescreen?

I imported the USA edition of the DVD because it says "Widescreen" on the box. When I went to play it I was most disappointed to find it had an AR of 4:3 like all the other editions.

Can someone please confirm this for me? I'm wondering if I got a faulty DVD or something. I just find it most strange.

I think the movie was actually shot in 4:3. So not sure why the DVD case says "widescreen."
