Rebel without a cause?

Hi. I have not seen The Celluloid Closet, but I know that it references Rebel Without a Cause in some form. Is there a lot said about that film, or do they just reference it and nothing more?

It's not said a lot of stuff. Te writer is interviewed and talks about Plato, his picture of Alan Ladd in the school locker and his admiration towards James Dean's character, as well as his sad end, that was common to all gay characters in movies that time. The writer says that, in another era, without censorship, he would have written Plato different, because he was the real rebel in the movie.
