What are cactus crooners?

I had a friend who owned an early draft of the script, and it revealed that the "Cactus Crooners" was a choir that Kat was auditioning for or something along those lines. She would've been going to school in Santa Fe at the time, which is mostly desert (if I'm not mistaken?), hence the "cactus" part. Her dad was apologizing because he'd interrupted her audition to tell her that they were moving. My guess is that they removed this scene from the film because they deemed it unnecessary or they felt it slowed the plot down too much.
