Did anybody else find it strange that Dave's kids were sleeping in the same bed in his large house that clearly had several rooms? Besides his own bedroom and maybe an office, there still should have been plenty of room for them to sleep in separate quarters.

no, those are his children and he doesn't get to see them that often so sleeping with them is not a big deal.
Also, they're young kids, not adults.
And even if the house had 20 rooms, kids fall asleep wherever they want.
