People complaining about McDonalds in this movie...

I don't get why so many people have a problem with McDonalds in this movie. As a divorced Dad who can relate to what these guys (especially Vic) are going through, I can say there really isn't anything weird about them meeting at McDonalds.

Every Friday I meet my ex-wife at a Wendy's for the drop-off. It just happens to be in the middle of where we both live and is easy to get in and out of.

The guys in this film probably decided to meet there because it's a Friday, lots of families go out to eat on Friday's and the young kids probably like eating there as well.

It also had a pretty important part in this film since the old guy and teenage guy both work there. And there aren't too many other places besides fast food joints where a teenager could be a 70 year old mans boss (as in this film).

So quit complaining about it. It's very realistic and tons of Americans eat fast food. I'm not a McDonalds fanatic or anything but the idea that it would make an ideal meeting spot for drop offs is realisitic.

I am also amazed at how low the rating is for this film. Maybe it is better appreciated by divorcees.

It's a film I watch a couple times per year as it really helps me feel better about the suckiness that is divorce.

Highly recommended for divorcees, especially Dads who don't have full time custody.

It's one of the few films that doesn't portray the Dad in a divorce as an a-hole (which seems to be prevalant in society and the media).

There are at least a couple of threads with people making fun of this.

this movie is pretty funny...and perhaps the reason why i currently pick my son up at mcdonald's.... only it isn't the ex-wife i meet, it is her current husband. she can't be bothered with actually doing the dirty work. i always say that if anyone pays attention, they must think that we were a gay couple.

we never eat at the mcd's. i routinely get there early...and see dozens of other swaps being made. it is a very convenient spot between two metro areas. a majority of the time, we stop at subway a little further away for "dinner".

The first time I'd seen this I was probably nine or ten I totally got the whole MCDonalds thing. I absolutely loved the movie and found it heartwarming and at times heartbreaking.

I agree about how McDonalds served as a plot and storytelling device.

I love that scene that begins with Dave and Vic talking about how they handle their sons with positive reinforcement. After that, we meet our two big supporting characters Max and Walter, who ironically work at McDonalds lol.

And it makes sense for the mothers to drop their kids off their, because it's probably a neutral in between place, so they don't have to drive that far.

Since all three male leads are divorced dads it worked out that they could all have separate scenes with their ex wives but then cut back to the latter. A very clever way to briefly address all relationships with different characters, no?

And the best part is you totally buy that these people were married by the writing and the acting. It's not over the top or forced, it just has that genuine feel that these characters have history.

I digress, I just really get into movies like this :)
