I agree completely--'Ursula' was the best of the kids. The others were much too old, for one thing.
I thought Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams were all right, but overall I felt like the characters had been 'flattened' as compared to the stage version (and how I would guess it was originally intended to be). Their quirkiness was so toned down they were just boring (especially Mr. McAfee). Let's face it, it's a corny old show with silly, colorful, caricature-ish characters--and I think it needs that to 'work.' Without it, it's just dull.
