Kim miscasted

I think Brigitta Dau who played "Ursula Merkle" should have played Kim. She's got an outstanding voice, she's cute and perky and stole the show (in my opinion). As far Jason and Vanessa, I thought they were also outstanding.

I love this version!

"miscasted"????

I agree completely--'Ursula' was the best of the kids. The others were much too old, for one thing.

I thought Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams were all right, but overall I felt like the characters had been 'flattened' as compared to the stage version (and how I would guess it was originally intended to be). Their quirkiness was so toned down they were just boring (especially Mr. McAfee). Let's face it, it's a corny old show with silly, colorful, caricature-ish characters--and I think it needs that to 'work.' Without it, it's just dull.

She doesn't even come close to pulling off a teenager. I thought she was 40.

But the whole movie just doesn't work. I guess it's tough going from the original to this. The whole energy is missing.

Life has no meaning. It's up to us to give it meaning.

She definitely looked way too old. Like a 40-yr-old 17-yr-old or something.

Besides that...we did this play in my HS, so it was nice to see a movie version that much more matched what we did!

Totally agree with you interrobang. No chemistry in any characters and Kim is way to old for the part.

For what its worth, that fellow from Seinfeld got his start on Broadway.

The film is on right now on Encore. Chynna Phillips looks old enough to play the mother's part! She doesn't do the songs justice either. Her version of 'How Lovely to be A Woman' reeks compared to the way Ann Margaret sang the song. This version is dull and lifeless when she's on. The only bright spot among the teens was Brigitta Dau who played Ursula. I agree with those that said she should have played Kim.

No charisma whatsoever. Goes for the whole cast. Sorry.
