Hair Brushing

Did you know that brushing hair excessively is actually really bad for it? I wonder if Marcia knew that? Probably not.

Waaay back a generation ago it was thought that giving your hair 100 strokes with a good bristle brush was good for the hair.

Yeah bit like the bit where mrs brady says eating red meat is good for you

Brushing the hair is indeed good for it...As a former Hairstylist, that's what we learned in school - It stimulates the hair folicles and the blood/oils that feed the scalp and hair. You just have to do it gently and, for long hair, a 'boar's hair' brush is best as it will smooth the hair out and evenly distribute the oils generated by the scalp.

‘Six inches is perfectly adequate; more is vulgar!' (Prime of Miss Jean Brodie Re: An open window).

I've always heard that gentle brushing was good for the hair. As the previous poster said, be sure to use a very good quality hairbrush as sharp-tipped artificial bristles can tear the hair. If you want to splurge, buy a Mason-Pearson hairbrush. They cost a lot, but they're GREAT brushes and last forever.
