Was the scene of the O'Doyle's crashing the car to their deaths really necessary? That scene bothered me since I saw it as a kid. It just makes it more unsettling that they had that first grader O'Doyle with them

It did seem a little out of place for a comedy like this (sure they were obnoxious do*chebags but didn't deserve to die or get seriously hurt... especially the little kid). Although the car skidding on the now blackened banana peel that Chris Farley threw out the bus window days earlier was pretty funny. They should've just had them get into a more minor accident instead if they wanted to make sure they wouldn't show up.
