Has anyone from Hollywood actually been to a small town?

Seriously I live in a town about the same size according to the population on the sign entering town. We have far more than two teachers in our elementary school, have quite a few soccer teams, as well as other athletic teams, four full convenience store gas stations, two grocery stores, a box store, even a couple of fast food chains.

If you looked at the sign at the beginning of the movie, it starts off 2,367 then is crossed off a couple times and the last population is 473 I think

I've been in floundering towns. The population sign may not be accurate. The movie wouldn't be accurate today because of consolidation but I knew 3 towns in my area that were pretty similar around that time that all eventually consolidated with another town that was slightly larger.

This.

Before athletic teams started consolidating with other towns, many small towns where I live really did resemble the tiny hole-in-the-wall community of The Big Green. Some towns have even plain died out, for all intents and purposes, because they no longer had a population that was relevant. It's a sad fact of life for small towns, but it is based in reality, to an extent.
