I didn't see the entire movie so that I wouldn't be able to answer but I do remember one part in particular where tommy tells Gina gershon's character about brakus pretty much how killing a man has haunted him and her saying that she believes he did what he had to do. It was cool :)

Yeah, what mfoley said. He mentions in passing that he killed a man and it haunts him and so he gave up teaching. Other than that reference and the main characters name, there isn't any connection to the first two.
